I have no objection to the salary proposed,

but I agree with Mr. Gent that it may have to be

increased later on.

We are, however, getting individual proposals

for the revision of the salaries of individual posts

in Hong Kong which were not dealt with in the general

revision. Such proposals are being considered piece-

meal, and I think it would be much more satisfactory

if the Hong Kong Government could be asked to consider

generally what adjustments in the salaries of other

posts would be appropriate, so that we can get a

complete picture.
